Rashid's record pace rewarded with No.1

Afghanistan leg-spinner becomes the first teenager to top the ICC's men's ranking

Rashid Khan's dream run of form has seen him become the youngest man and the only teenager to be ranked No.1 by the International Cricket Council in any form of the game

Still more than six months away from his 20th birthday, Rashid on Tuesday moved to equal top of the ODI bowling rankings, jumping eight spots after taking 16 wickets at 7.93 in Afghanistan’s 4-1 series win over Zimbabwe.

At 7092 days of age, Rashid breaks the previous record of Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq, was No.1 on the ODI bowling charts in January 1998, when he was 7683 days old.

West Indies women's captain Stafanie Taylor is the youngest player ever to achieve the No.1 ranking, topping the women's T20 charts when she was 6907 days old.

Rashid has also continued his march towards becoming the fastest-ever bowler to reach 100 ODI wickets with his 16 against Zimbabwe taking him to 86 from 37 games in total.

Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc holds the record for least amount of ODIs to take 100 wickets, with 52.

In 2016, Starc broke the record that had stood for almost two decades, claiming his 100th ODI wicket against Sri Lanka to pass the long-standing mark of Saqlain (53 matches) as the fastest bowler to the milestone.

Starc is also currently the fastest to 100 ODI wickets in terms of the number of balls bowled. It took him just 2452 deliveries to reach triple figures, breaking Pakistan quick Shoaib Akhtar's previous record of 2707.

Rashid has bowled 1791 balls in ODIs and is on track to surpass Starc in that department as well.

Rashid is joined at the top of the bowling rankings by another newcomer in India's Jasprit Bumrah, who joined the leg-spinner at the top after a starring role in his side's series win over South Africa.
