rebel throws support behind Women's BBL

rebel announced as a sponsor for the new Women's Big Bash League, which boasts some of the world's best talent

The inaugural season of the Women’s Big Bash League has been given a major boost, with sports retail store rebel signing on as the new tournament’s naming rights sponsor.

The new eight-team competition, set to kick off on December 5 with a showdown between the Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars at Junction Oval, has already attracted a wealth of talent from around the world.

The rebel Women’s Big Bash League will feature 59 matches played across 51 days, including eight matches televised live on Network Ten’s ONE.

rebel will also become the official online retail store of Cricket Australia.

"It is very exciting to have rebel coming on board to be the naming rights sponsor of the WBBL and we look forward to working with them to make the first season of the competition a successful one," Cricket Australia Executive General Manager Operations Mike McKenna said.

"The major purpose of the WBBL is to inspire girls to play cricket and it is fantastic to have a well-known Australian company in rebel supporting this ambition.

"I am sure this latest announcement will add to the anticipation ahead of the start of the rebel WBBL on 5 December."

rebel Managing Director, Erica Berchtold said the support reflected the company’s ongoing commitment to women in sport.

Meanwhile, Network Ten have confirmed that Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars legends Mel Jones and Lisa Sthalekar will join Andy Maher in the WBBL commentary box.

The first televised match will see the Brisbane Heat take on the Adelaide Strikers at the Gabba on December 19.
