Badree snares hat-trick on RCB debut

West Indian takes three in three - including Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma - in his first game with new IPL side

Leg-spinner Samuel Badree has started his career with the star-studded Royal Challenges Bangalore in perfect fashion, taking a hat-trick on debut for his new Indian Premier League side.

With Bangalore defending a modest 142 on home turf at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Badree took the 15th IPL hat-trick, completing it with the prized scalp of Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma with a brilliant wrong’un.

The 36-year-old’s blitz left the Mumbai Indians reeling at 4-7 as the visitors lost four wickets in six balls.

Stuart Binny made the first inroad for RCB when he had dangerman Jos Buttler caught at mid-wicket by Chris Gayle for two.

Badree then begun his memorable feat three balls later when Parthiv Patel handed Gayle another catch when he mis-timed a lofted cover drive straight to cover.

Fast-bowler Mitchell McClenaghan then made his way out as a pinch-hitter but that experiment lasted just one ball when he cracked a full-toss straight to Mandeep Singh at long-on.

And when Rohit Sharma was completed deceived by a Badree googly, the normally reserved Trinidadian managed to waddle off in delighted celebration.

The brisk leggie managed another wicket when Nitish Rana’s top-edged cut landed in the hands of Sreenath Aravind at point, Badree finishing with the remarkable figures of 4-9 from his four-over allocation.

They're the best figures recorded so far in the 10th edition of the IPL and it's the first hat-trick taken in this year's tournament.

Earlier, Virat Kohli struck 62 off 47 balls in his return from the shoulder injury he suffered in the Test series against Australia to help RCB to 5-142.
