Marsh Cup win caps off Abbott's memorable weekend

Having proposed to his now fiancé on Friday, Sean Abbott capped off a memorable weekend with another domestic title

NSW allrounder Sean Abbott could not have scripted a better weekend than the one just gone.

On Friday, Abbott proposed to girlfriend Brier with his camera drone circling the pair during the magic moment that was almost derailed by after-work drinks and some local dogs.

Then two days later, Abbott starred for the Blues in their Marsh One-Day Cup final triumph over Western Australia, taking 4-23 and holding on to a brilliant outfield catch.

Abbott couldn't wipe the smile from his face as he spoke to reporters after the match near the end of an unforgettable weekend, which still had the title celebrations to come.

"Yeah, it's been a hell of a few days," Abbott said.

"(I) almost mucked that up a couple of times on Friday and wasn't as nervous as I thought I was going to be.

"Catching up with friends yesterday and celebrating that with some close friends and family was awesome and then today was just really enjoyable.

"Obviously, it's a final and it's a big game and we're playing against a really good team. All the lads went out there and had fun today.

"It's been a pretty big season for us; we all feel a little bit tired, but we turn up to the game and once we're into the game, it's like any other game for us.

"It's been a hell of a weekend."

While Abbott was in complete control of his actions on the field on Sunday at Bankstown Oval, he had to overcome unforeseen challenges to finally get down on one knee 48 hours earlier.

Abbott had the whole operation planned out, but with the sun quickly setting over the grassy banks of Shark Point in Sydney's eastern suburb of Clovelly, anxiety started to creep in.

And as some friendly local dog walkers stopped for a chin wag and with Brier running late, he started to worry that he would run out of sunlight.

"Just with my friendly nature and everyone wanting to talk to me before Brier arrived, and Brier wanting to hang around after work for one or two drinks just before school holidays," Abbott said when asked how he almost 'mucked' it up.

"I had to deal with a few dogs that were interested in the drone, so I got a bit nasty to a few people, I need to apologise.

"I was running out of sunlight for a while and getting a bit anxious, but all went off without a hitch. All good news."

Abbott has little time to celebrate the Marsh Cup win with NSW set to travel to Brisbane on Tuesday to take on the Queensland Bulls in the Marsh Sheffield Shield final.

Edwards, bowlers guide NSW to another one-day title

Abbott is aiming for a third title this summer having won the KFC BBL with Sydney Sixers and now the Marsh Cup and he says the Blues will take Sunday's momentum north.

After a few quiet ones, that is.

"There's obviously a massive game for us next week against another good who are in good form," he said.

"We'll enjoy tonight, I think we've deserved a couple of beers and everyone that's been involved in the team so far this season.

"We've certainly earnt those and we'll take that momentum into next week."
