Davies was handed four bonus runs after a wild throw from Kent wicketkeeper Sam Billings went to the boundary after the batsmen had already completed three runs.

The blunder didn't prove too costly for Kent, however, who won a rain-shortened match by seven wickets, with Billings finishing unbeaten on 14 in the run chase.

Elsewhere, another quickfire half-century from former Black Caps skipper Brendon McCullum set up Middlesex for a 72-run win over Essex at Lord's.

McCullum took just 28 balls to reach 63 in an innings that included five sixes and six fours.

The innings is McCullum's second belter in a week, after his 88 off 51 balls steered Middlesex to a 16-run win over Kent.

Daniel Vettori-coached Middlesex reached 6-203 off their 20 overs, with fellow Kiwis James Franklin and Tim Southee combining to smash 20 runs from the final four balls of the innings.

Franklin was unbeaten on 16 from seven, while Southee blasted a six from the only ball he faced.

Essex could only manage 131 in 16.2 overs before they were bowled out, Southee removing opener Adam Wheater without score in returning figures of 1-16 off three overs.

The win is Middlesex's third from seven matches, and allows them to climb off the bottom of the South Group table.

In Thursday night's other match, Northamptonshire downed down Worcestershire by seven wickets despite impressive figures of 1-20 from four tight overs from Worcestershire’s Aussie quick John Hastings.
