Gabriel suspended for Bangladesh incident

The West Indian fast bowler will miss the second Test against Bangladesh after he was found guilty of making physical contact with Imrul Kayes

West Indies paceman Shannon Gabriel will miss the second Test against Bangladesh after his latest breach of the ICC Code of Conduct.

Gabriel was found to have made "inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with Bangladesh batsman Imrul Kayes" during the opening day's play of the second Test in Chittagong.

The incident occurred during the eighth over of the Bangladesh innings and the on-field umpires Aleem Dar and Richard Illingworth believed 'the physical contact was avoidable'.

Gabriel received a 30 per cent fine and two demerit points for the incident after being found guilty of breaching Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “inappropriate physical contact with a player, player support personnel, umpire, match referee or any other person (including a spectator) during an international match”.

It wasn't the first time that Gabriel has been fined for a making physical contact with a player, after he received a 50 per cent fine and was docked three demerit points for making contact with Pakistan's Sarfraz Ahmed in Jamaica in April 2017.

The two incidents see Gabriel reach the threshold of four demerit points, meaning he will miss the second Test between West Indies and Bangladesh in Mirpur commencing on November 30.

Gabriel admitted the offence on the morning of the second day in Mirpur, accepting the sanction proposed by David Boon of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees and, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing.

Gabriel picked up four wickets during Bangladesh's first innings as the hosts were dismissed for 324.
