Marsh sent for scans on shoulder injury

Veteran batsman injured during county clash in Cardiff, Cricket Australia to wait for result of scans

Australia batsman Shaun Marsh will spend his 35th birthday in the company of medical staff after suffering a shoulder injury for his English county side on Sunday.

Marsh immediately signalled to the dressing room and favoured his left shoulder (his throwing shoulder) after diving to stop a boundary in Glamorgan's T20 match against Sussex in Cardiff.

The Australian was assisted from the field and will have scans on Monday morning (UK time) to assess the damage.

Mighty Marsh cracks another ton in ODI return

"Shaun's a tough guy, so it's certainly not a bruise the way he walked off holding his shoulder," said Glamorgan coach Robert Croft.

"So we'll have to wait and see, but we hope the scan will be favourable to us."

Cricket Australia will await the results of a medical report from Glamorgan to learn the extent of the injury.

Australia will be desperate for Marsh to get the all clear given they'll rely on the left-hander more than ever over the next 12 months while banned batsmen Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft are out of the side.

England take 2-0 lead despite Marsh ton

The veteran enjoyed his best-ever Test campaign last summer, scoring two crucial centuries in Australia's Ashes victory.

Marsh has been beset by injuries throughout his career, including chronic back and hamstring problems, while he also required surgery on his left elbow in 2014 that kept him out of action for several months.

He has been in some good touch this northern summer and was Australia's best batsmen in their winless ODI series against England last month, scoring two hundreds in five games.

County wrap: Marsh in good form for Glamorgan

He started his stint at Glamorgan with a score of 111 on debut, but managed just one half-century from his following six first-class innings.

Australia will be hoping Marsh can return to full fitness in time for their Test tour of the UAE to face Pakistan in October.
