A stunning aerial assault from St Lucia and Trinbago has seen them equal the world record for the most sixes in a T20 match
CPL match results in world record six-fest
The St Lucia stars and Trinbago Knight Riders have combined for a world-record equalling 34 sixes in a Caribbean Premier League run-fest in St Lucia.
Having set a franchise record 212 in the first innings, the St Lucia Stars would have been confident of securing their first win of the tournament thanks to a team-high 72* from David Warner, who struck three sixes as part of his 55-ball knock.
Rahkeem Cornwall (5) and Kieron Pollard (7) also had no trouble clearing the rope as they took to the aerial route for their half-centuries, with Pollard’s coming off just 18 balls.
However the trio were overshadowed by a devastating partnership from Brendon McCullum (68) and Darren Bravo (94*) who launched a stunning onslaught of their own.
Striking 16 maximums between them, the pair added 137 from just 55 deliveries to bring the run rate under control and stun the home crowd – including five sixes off the bat of Bravo in the 16th over to wrestle momentum well and truly in the visitors’ favour.
Denesh Ramdin then smashed a final maximum off the penultimate ball of the match to equal the record of 34 maximums as well as secure the win for the visitors.
