Maxwell back for fifth ODI, Stoinis promoted

Victorian included for the final match of the series at new Optus Stadium as Australia elect to bowl first

Glenn Maxwell has gone from the scrap heap to the hot seat, named to bat at No.6 for the fifth Gillette ODI between Australia and England in Perth.

Having been left out of Australia's initial squad for the five-match series, Maxwell has replaced state teammate Cameron White in Australia's side for the match at Optus Stadium.

Marcus Stoinis has been elevated to No.3 in the order, the position filled by White in the past two games, with Maxwell replacing the WA allrounder at No.6.

Australia won the toss and elected to bowl first in what will be the very first international match at the brand new stadium.

Paceman Pat Cummins has been ruled out due to a minor hamstring injury, his place taken by Mitchell Starc, who was rested from the fourth match in Adelaide on Friday.

England made two changes, bringing in pacemen Jake Ball and David Willey for their first games of the series in place of Chris Woakes and Mark Wood, who have both been rested.

Australia have won 11 of their last 13 ODIs in Perth but their strong record in the west is effectively null and void given the match will be played at the brand-new Optus Stadium.

In an odd quirk, Australia's opposition features as many players with familiarity of the stadium’s drop-in pitches as their own squad does; England quicks Mark Wood and David Willey played for the Lions and the Scorchers respectively in recent T20 trial games, while Jhye Richardson and Andrew Tye also turned out for Perth.

"Only the Scorchers guys have played out here. No one (else) has been out here," captain Steve Smith on Saturday.

Aussies set to embrace new Perth venue

"I don't think they've even been inside the stadium. The boys are coming for a walk down here this afternoon to get a feel for the ground and set our stuff up and get ready for tomorrow.

"The games they played up here it was a little bit up and down, a bit two-paced. It's hard to tell sometimes with the drop-in wickets when they're first being used. It'll be interesting to see how it goes.

"The wicket looks pretty good, it feels quite hard at the moment.

"The stadium is magnificent. When it’s packed and everyone's in here I think it's going to be an incredible atmosphere. It's got a bit of an MCG feel to it.

Mitch Marsh's behind the scenes look at Optus Stadium

"It'd be nice if they can replicate what the WACA does out here – it's a great place to play cricket, one-day cricket in particular, the wickets there are fantastic.

"Most games there are high scoring. It would be great if they could replicate that out here."
