Doran to play Darwin Premier Cricket

Young Tasmania batting gun Jake Doran will continue his cricket education via the unusual locale of Tracy Village in the Darwin Premier Cricket competition.

Long touted as one of the country's finest young batting talents, 21-year-old Doran enjoyed a breakout season with the Sheffield Shield runners-up, scoring 756 runs at 44.47 to finish fifth among the competition's top run-scorers.

Against South Australia last November, he posted a maiden first-class hundred and followed it up with half a dozen fifties.

The NSW native will now turn his attentions to the Northern Territory, where he will line up for Tracy Village against Waratah in the competition's opening round on Saturday.

"He'll be ready to go for round one and is excited to be going up to Darwin. He'll stick around for a while this season," Tasmania coach Adam Griffith told the NT News.

"Jake is one of the best batsmen in the country – he had a really good season.

"He understands his game now and will fit in really well up there because he's also a high-quality character."

Griffith said Jordan Silk could be another to spent time in the Territory, with Tasmania Cricket viewing the NT program – which included the creation last year of the Strike League T20 competition – as a viable option for his players.

"Jordan will probably come up," Griffith continued. "The weather and facilities up there are fantastic. Players can go there instead of going all the way to England in their off-seasons.

"(NT Cricket's manager of pathways) Mark Sorell is doing a great job up there."

"We've got good ties with Northern Territory and we feel cricket up there is heading in the right direction."
