Brave Aussies kept their cool: Kohli

India skipper admits his side failed to match Australia's bravery and composure in the key moments after slumping to series loss

India captain Virat Kohli says Australia's composure and bravery in the high-pressure moments was the difference between the two sides in the visitors' historic ODI series triumph.

Australia bounced back from 0-2 down to win three games in succession to take out the series 3-2, their first ODI series win in the subcontinent.

Aussies seal historic ODI series triumph

After surrendering the series with a 35-run defeat in Delhi, Kohli said the tourists' ability to be courageous in the tense moments decided the result.

"They were more composed in pressure moments," Kohli said after play.

"They were more positive and brave in the pressure situations, and hence they won those important moments in the game and when you capitalise on probably every important moment that comes in the game as a side, it gets very difficult to go past that side.

"So even the way they batted in Mohali after (Glenn) Maxwell got out, chasing 130-odd in 13 overs was an outstanding effort.

"Even here, and Ranchi as well, the constant pressure on us throughout and the areas they bowled really made us play the shots that we played.

"Credit has to be given where it's due. And we certainly not up to the mark and they were deserving winners."

Australia showed resounding composure to snatch the first match of the tour, a T20I in Vizag where the tourists took 14 runs off the last over to win on the last ball.

India were next to keep their cool in the final-over win in Nagpur to take a 2-0 series lead in the ODI series.

From there it didn't get too close, as Australia won by 32 runs in Ranchi, chased down a record 6-359 in Mohali with 13 balls to spare and despite a collapse and tense fightback from India's tail in Delhi, Aaron Finch's side still won by 35 runs.

Aussie record-breakers down India

The win exacts revenge on the 2-1 Gillette ODI Series defeat at home against India, where it was Kohli's side who needed to fight back claim the series after dropping the first game in Sydney.

Kohli says the shoe was on the other foot in India this month as his side copped a taste of the medicine they were prescribing in Australia in January.

When asked what changes the Australians have made since they last played, Kohli said: "It's exactly how we played in Australia is the way they have played in the last three games.

"I think we were more brave than them in the pressure situations in Australia, purely because they had a series to lose at home and we just went out there and expressed ourselves.

In-form Khawaja hammers another ton

"Here, when they sensed that they had a foot in the door they made sure they didn't let us close the door on the series.

"You've got to give credit to them – they're a very young side and are an inexperienced side compared to us.

"They showed more heart and confidence in the pressure situations and they believed that they can play better cricket than us in those crunch moments.

I'll never take it for granted: Khawaja

"So, they deserved those to win and it's good for the Australian team as well.

"They've won a big series like this against India at home – it's good for their confidence.

"They were better than us and that's exactly what happened and they deserved to win."
