Kohli back on top of the world

Steve Smith leapfrogged by India's batting maestro as his teammates get ratings boost

India captain Virat Kohli is back on top of the world Test batting rankings after his player-of-the-match performance in India’s third Test win at Trent Bridge.

Kohli scored 97 and 103 – the second time in the series he’s scored exactly 200 runs in a Test – to leapfrog Australia’s Steve Smith and reclaim the No.1 spot.

Kolhi has moved to 937 ranking points, a career high, and sits just one point outside the top 10 of the highest-rated Test batsmen, a list that’s led by Sir Donald Bradman (961 points) and Smith (947).

After the win at Nottinghamshire that saw the series ledger read 2-1, several India players achieved a ratings boost.

Allrounder Hardik Pandya, who claimed 5-28 and scored 52 not out, is now ranked 51st in both the Test batting and bowling lists.

Buttler, Bumrah shine with India on verge of victory

Jasprit Bumrah, the right-arm seam-bowler, moved up to 37th on the Test bowling list due in large to his 5-85 in the second innings.

And Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan now sit in 19th and 22nd on the batting charts, respectively.

For England, Jos Buttler’s maiden Test century saw him move up 22 places to No.47 on the batting rankings, while leg-spinner Adil Rashid is also ranked 47th among Test bowlers.

The fourth Test starts in Southampton on August 30.
