Keen fan takes mid-match selfie with Kohli

Pitch invader whips out camera phone for snap with India captain while batting in an IPL game

It seems fans will go to any lengths to get a selfie with Virat Kohli – even while he's in the middle of a game.

As the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain led his side's run chase in Delhi on Saturday, an enthusiastic Kohli admirer breached security and ran out to take a photo with the master batsman.

The fan, wearing a denim jacket and jeans, threw himself at Kohli's feet before being escorted off the ground by officials, as Kohli led RCB to their fourth win of the Indian Premier League season with a blistering 40-ball 70 against the Delhi Daredevils.

This year's IPL has seen multiple pitch invaders – all with harmless intentions – with Kohli's predecessor as India captain MS Dhoni and fellow Test batsman Ajinkya Rahane both encountering visits from enthusiastic supporters.

It comes after a streaker who brought Perth Stadium's inaugural international match to a standstill in January was slapped with a three-year ban from all Cricket Australia-sanctioned games.

While RCB are still in the running for the playoffs, the star-studded side have again underachieved despite boasting the likes of Kohil, AB de Villiers and Quinton de Kock this season following their bottom-placed finish in 2017.

With three games still to play though, Bangalore remain in the running for a playoff berth and Kohli, RCB’s leading run-scorer with 466 runs at 52, says his side haven't given up hope.

Kohli in awe of De Villiers masterclass

"The table is wide open, right time to get the win,'' Kohli said after their five-wicket triumph.

"Bowling first is better in this stage, because it's easier for batsmen to take responsibility. You can almost set up the game how you like. That's what works for our boys.''

While Kohli set the early pace in their clash with Delhi, De Villiers iced the game for RCB as he bashed six sixes to finish unbeaten on 72 off just 37 balls.

"I wasn't happy with the way we finished with the ball, but in the mid-innings break AB told me, 'Don't worry, we'll get this', and that helped me get in the zone," Kohli said.

“Then I let my instincts take over.

"It's lovely batting with AB. We've done this many times in the past. I don't need to say much - (it's) been an honour for me to bat with him.

"I was disappointed after getting out since we had the run-rate in control. I wanted to finish it with three overs to spare, and get the net run-rate up.

"But the two points are important."
