Waqar names best ever Pakistan Test XI

The former Pakistan coach selected his best ever Pakistan Test XI

Fast-bowling great Waqar Younis has named just two current players in his best Pakistan Test XI of all time.

Pakistan is currently taking on the West Indies in Dubai in what is their 400th Test and Waqar used the occasion to announce the best XI players he has seen represent the country in five-day cricket.

Veteran right-hander Younus Khan and wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmed were the only active players selected in the high-quality side, with 1992 World Cup winning skipper Imran Khan unsurprisingly named as captain.

Waqar opted to select the experienced right hand-left hand combination of Hanif Mohammad and Saeed Anwar at the top of the order, with Younus at three and former skipper Javed Miandad was named at four.

Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Yousuf were selected to bat at number five and six respectively, with Imran and Sarfraz to follow in an extremely deep batting order.

Two of Younis' former teammates – Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar – make up an impressive fast-bowling combination, with the stylish Abdul Qadir providing the spin option.

Perhaps the most notable omission from the team is that of Waqar himself, while Misbah-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Moin Khan, Wasim Bari and Zaheer Abbas are others who could have easily featured.
