Test hopeful Will Pucovski warmed up for next week's tour match against Sri Lanka with a match-winning performance in Victoria's Premier Cricket competition on Saturday.
The uncapped Pucosvki showed he was in excellent form with an unbeaten 82 from 107 deliveries as Melbourne successfully chased down Northcote's total of 251 at the Albert Ground for the loss of just one wicket.
Pucovski was named in Australia's Test squad for the two-match Domain Test Series against Sri Lanka later this month and will also play for the CA XI in their tour match against the Asian nation in Hobart from week.
Pucovski's knock against Northcote showed great patience, with the 20-year-old hitting six boundaries and combining well with Meyrick Buchanan for a 195-run partnership for the second wicket.
Buchanan scored his second unbeaten century of the Premier Cricket season with a superb 121, the 25-year-old hitting 12 boundaries to go with his unbeaten 154 for Melbourne against Casey-South Melbourne in October.
Zimbabwe international Solomon Mire (100) paced Northcote with a century of his own, while Victorian paceman Chris Tremain (4-43) picked up four wickets for Melbourne.
The best score of the day came from former Victorian allrounder Ian Holland, who smashed 199 not out for Ringwood against Frankston Peninsula at AH Butler Oval.
Holland has played 17 first class matches for Victoria and Hampshire and he showed he was in good touch as he smashed 15 fours and eight massive sixes during his 157-ball stay.
The 28-year-old then returned with the ball to pick up 3-16 with his more than handy medium pace to cap off a player of the match performance in Ringwood's big win.
Other notable performances in Round 10 of the Victoria Premier Cricket included Tim Ludeman's 93 for Geelong against Fitzroy Doncaster and an excellent 86 from teenager Jake Fraser-McGurk for the Monash Tigers during their one-dayer against Prahran.
Brayden Stepien continued his excellent season with another half-century for Carlton, while experienced duo Dean Russ (107) and Travis Dean (68) were among the runs for Footscray at Merv Hughes Oval.
There were also plenty of big scores around in the NSW Premier Cricket competition, with the best coming from Blues batsman Kurtis Patterson.
Patterson hit 17 fours and a quartet of sixes during his unbeaten 167 for St George against Western Suburbs at Hurstville Oval.
The 25-year-old put on 309 for the second wicket with Luke Bartier (133), before NSW paceman Trent Copeland (2-36) impressed with the ball to ensure St George cruised to victory.
