WBBL semi-finals venue confirmed

Drummoyne Oval to host the first standalone Rebel WBBL semi-finals

The first ever standalone Rebel WBBL semi-finals will be played at Sydney’s Drummoyne Oval, Cricket Australia has confirmed.

Both Sydney teams have cemented their spots in the WBBL|04 play-offs, with the Thunder – who sit on top of the table with 19 points – assured of a finish in the top two.

Tickets for the semi-finals will be available from Friday 11 January at 10am AEDT, with adults $10, concession $5 and children free.

All proceeds from the ticket sales will go towards Dolly’s Dream, a charity supporting the fight against bullying.

This season is the first time the WBBL finals have been played separately from the KFC BBL, with the team who finishes on top of the ladder granted hosting rights for a semi-final double header on January 19.

The only team who can displace the Thunder at the top are the second-ranked Sixers, ensuring the semi-finals will be played in Sydney.

The highest-ranked qualifier for the WBBL|04 final will then earn the right to host the final on January 26 – meaning if the teams who finish third and fourth both win their semi-finals, the decider will be played at the home of the third-ranked team.

The first semi-final will kick off at 10.40am AEDT, before the second match gets underway at 1.50pm.

Both matches will be broadcast live on Fox Cricket and Channel 7, with coverage on ABC Radio.

Next season, the WBBL will move to an entirely separate window from October-December, with the entire season to be completed before the start of BBL|09.
