Bio

Alastair Cook resigned as captain in 2016 after a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of India, after a five-year stint at the helm of the England team.

In May 2016, he became the first England batter to reach 10,000 Test runs, with 30 centuries and 55 half-centuries to his name.  Cook was the second youngest batsman after Sachin Tendulkar to pass 5000 Test runs.

After plenty of speculation about whether Alastair Cook would hang on to the England one-day captaincy throughout 2014, the ECB confirmed Eoin Morgan would replace the batsman as ODI skipper for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

He also missed a place in the final 15-man squad for the tournament, continuing an unlucky run for Cook and Cricket World Cups.

He made his one-day international debut in 2006 but missed out on a spot in the 2007 Cup squad after being overlooked by selectors.

It was a similar story for the batsman for the 2011 tournament when he was dropped from the one-day side before being reinstated and made captain shortly after.

While Cook has had his critics in one-day cricket, he has five hundreds and 19 fifties to his name.
