Bio

Shaun Marsh first gained notoriety when he peeled off a flawless 119 in a Sheffield Shield clash against a star-studded NSW side in 2003.

Blues captain and then Test skipper Steve Waugh labelled Marsh’s performance “the best innings I have ever seen from a 19-year-old” and it seemed only a matter of time before Marsh would join his father Geoff as a Test player.

But the stylish left-hander didn’t truly come to international prominence until five years later, when he topped the run-scorers list in the inaugural Indian Premier League in 2008.

His IPL exploits came on the back of a golden summer for Western Australia and he made an instant impression in ODI cricket as well, posting 81 on debut.

Several injury setbacks and a first-class record that belied his immense ability meant Marsh had to wait until 2011 to make his Test debut, and he marked the occasion with a brilliant century in Sri Lanka.

Another injury and a horror home series against India – which yielded just 17 runs in four Tests – saw Marsh banished to state cricket and his international career was at a crossroads.

He earned a shock recall to the Test side for the tour of South Africa in 2014, and that series summed up Marsh’s stop-start career to date.

Having peeled off a brilliant century in the first Test, Marsh followed it up with a pair in the second before he was left out of the series decider.

Marsh lost his Australian contract for the 2017-18 season and will be looking to impress for Western Australia.
