Player Story

A state cricket veteran who briefly broke into Australia’s Test side, Andrew McDonald has been struck down by several injuries towards the end of his career.

Debuting for Victoria in 2001-02, the allrounder’s breakthrough season came in 2006-07 when he became just the fourth player in Sheffield Shield/Pura Cup history to do the double of 750 runs and 25 wickets in a season.

His Test debut came at the start of 2009, playing four consecutive matches against South Africa for a top score of 68 and best bowling of 3-25.

He also played for Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League that same year, before Royal Challengers Bangalore signed him in 2012. His last season with the Bushrangers was ruined by injury before his body let him down again in his first year with South Australia in 2013-14.
