Bio

"From Bready to Birmingham"

At six foot eight and as wide as a house Boyd Rankin should either be a farmer or a fast bowler. In fact actually he is both. Growing up in Derry, Northern Ireland on his family's farm, he learnt how to drive a tractor, plough the fields and look after cattle and sheep, but when time allowed he was taking wickets galore for his local club and for Ireland age group sides. He was Ireland's main strike bowler for 37 one day internationals before throwing his lot in with England like Ed Joyce and Eoin Morgan had done before him. It paid off when he made his England debut against his former team-mates in Dublin and took 4-46 to make a point. He has impressed for Warwickshire and has worked under the likes of Allan Donald, another bowler who operated above 90 miles per hour. He is a quiet gentle giant off the field, and is happiest working hard for the team on it. He also has an agricultural degree.

Rankin made his Test debut against Australia in January 2014, where he struggled to make an impact. He took 1-47 in the second innings.

He has played a combined 46 ODIs for Ireland and England, with best-bowling figures of 4-46.
