Born in Canberra, Dawson represented the Prime Minister's XI in 2002 and made his maiden First Class appearance for Tasmania back in 2004.
In that match he became the first Australian to score a century and carry his bat on debut, hitting 123 against Western Australia.
The wicketkeeper-batsman was one of the outstanding performers in the Sydney First Grade competition last summer, topping the run scorers list with 1,107 at 58.26 with a highest score of 200 not out.
He played his first game for the NSW SpeedBlitz Blues in the last Shield match of the 2011/12 season against Victoria.
