A classical off-spinner with an easy, fluent action, Dilruwan Perera had been among Sri Lanka's steadiest first-class performers.
He was rewarded with a ODI debut against England in 2007, before a T20I debut in 2011 against Australia and then a Test debut against Pakistan in 2014.
