The younger brother of former Redbacks batsman James Smith, Kelvin was named Player of the Tournament at the 2011-12 Under-19 National Championships.
A left-handed batsman and off-spin bowler, he made his first-class debut in 2013 and scored 57 against Western Australia in just his second match.
Aged 19, he was unveiled as the youngest captain in the 156-year history of Adelaide club West Torrens Eagles, beating the previous mark of former Test player David Hookes.
