After his mammoth 170 against the Blues, Renshaw finished his maiden Sheffield Shield campaign as Queensland's leading Shield run scorer with 738 at 43.41 in 2015-16. 

In 2017, Renshaw became the first Australian cricketer to make 500 Test runs before turning 21 years old and currently holds the record for most number of Test runs scored before turning 21 years old for Australia, with 524 runs.

With the 2016-17 Test series against South Africa already lost, Renshaw was called up for his debut in the third Test in Adelaide.

Three Tests later, Renshaw scored his maiden century, a wonderful 184 against Pakistan in Sydney. However after a difficult six Tests in Asia (four in India, two in Bangladesh) and a barren start to the follow Shield season, Renshaw was left out for the 2017-18 Ashes series with Cameron Bancroft preferred. 

Ironically, Renshaw was called up to replace the suspended Bancroft during the ill-fated tour of South Africa in early 2018. But that would be his last Test until the Sydney Test in 2022-23, when he was recalled into the middle order after several seasons of success at No.5 for Queensland.
