Bio

A veteran of the Australian domestic scene, Michael Klinger’s career has seen him play for three different state teams and also taken him to English county cricket and the Indian Premier League.

After 10 years at Victoria, Klinger moved to South Australia in 2008 and quickly established himself as one of the best domestic players in the country, hitting 1203 runs at 70.76 in his first Sheffield Shield season with the Redbacks, with four hundreds and a best of 255 against Western Australia, and 886 runs at 63.28 the following season.

He was named State Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010, also handed the SA captaincy and spoken about for higher honours.

A former Australia under-19 captain, in a side that included Michael Clarke, Klinger has the infamous record of being the only batsman in Australian cricket history to be stranded on 99-not-out due to a declaration, after Victoria captain Paul Reiffel pulled the pin when his young batsman was just one run short of his maiden first-class hundred in a match against Tasmania in 2001.

Klinger also starred for the Redbacks in one-day cricket and Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League. After six years in South Australia, Klinger moved to Western Australia in 2014 to join the Warriors and Perth Scorchers.

A batsman with an insatiable appetite for runs, Klinger is a valuable contributor in all three formats.

Klinger also signed with English county Gloucestershire in 2013 and has been a dominant force for the club’s limited-overs teams.

After years and years of runs in domestic cricket, Klinger was eventually given an international debut in T20 cricket. He has a top-score of 62 against Sri Lanka at the Adelaide Oval.
