Peter George is tall, thin and very accurate. In fact, he is so tall, thin and accurate that people have compared him to one of Australia’s greatest ever players in Glenn McGrath.

The paceman enjoyed a successful debut against the Tasmania Tigers back in 2008. George snared 4-56 in the first innings, including three wickets in a fiery three over spell that saw him remove Tim Paine, Luke Butterworth and Brett Geeves. He backed it up in the second innings, where he removed both openers.

The 2009-10 season was huge for George, and culminated with him being selected in a number of Australian touring parties.

On the local scene, George was the go-to-man for the Redbacks, finishing with 36 wickets at 30 in the Sheffield Shield.

During the season, he ripped through the Tigers, finishing with astonishing career-best figures of 8-84.

The incredible run of form saw him chosen to tour England, New Zealand and India. The experience was second to none, and he didn’t have to wait too long before he was handed a Baggy Green.

The 2010-11 series in India was a tough one, and George quickly found out that Test cricket wasn’t going to be as easy as a four-day game down in Bellerive.

After having watched Sachin Tendulkar obliterate the attack, George returned to bowl to the world’s best batsman. It’s daunting at the best of times, but bowling to Tendulkar when he’s on 214 must be horrifying. To his credit, George stuck to his guns, and knocked over the Little Master. He also picked up the wicket of Zaheer Khan to finish with impressive figures of 2/48 off 21. Not bad when you consider India made 495.

Unfortunately, George hasn’t been able to reproduce the sort of form that earned him national honours. Injuries have played a big part in his struggles, with his 2.03 metre frame struggling to bear the brunt of his bowling workload.

George will look to continue on from some solid form for Queensland last season.
