ODI squad to influence BBL|05 run home

Perth Scorchers, Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades appear to be the KFC Big Bash League clubs most impacted by the announcement of Australia's squad for the upcoming five-match one-day international series against India.

Uncapped fast bowlers Scott Boland and Joel Paris are among 13 players named in the Australia squad for the first three matches of the upcoming Victoria Bitter Series, to be played on January 12, 15 and 17.

The ODI squad will assemble in Perth in January 8, leaving Thursday's clash between the Thunder and Scorchers at Spotless Stadium the potentially the final BBL appearance for Scorchers duo Paris and Shaun Marsh.

However the Heat and the Thunder will be the big beneficiaries when Australia's Test squad stars return following the Sydney Test.

The ODI squad will be revised for the two final matches in Canberra and Sydney on January 20 and 23.

The last game before the BBL finals is on January 18, with two semi-finals (January 21 and 22) and the final (January 24) to follow.

India will play two warm-up matches in Perth against a Western Australia XI to open their tour. They play a T20 match on 8 January and a 50-over match the following day. Both matches will be streamed LIVE on cricket.com.au and the CA LIVE app, thanks to Optus Sport.

How the BBL clubs fare

Adelaide Strikers

Kane Richardson has earned an ODI recall for the first time since November 2014, leaving the Strikers without the 24-year-old quick. 

Brisbane Heat

The Heat will benefit from a big name exclusion from the ODI squad, welcoming back incumbent opener Joe Burns after the end of the third Test against the West Indies.

Hobart Hurricanes

Hurricanes veteran George Bailey has been named in the 13-man group, with Hobart otherwise unaffected.

Melbourne Renegades

The Renegades' slim finals hopes will not be aided when skipper Aaron Finch and Matthew Wade depart for international duties, but they do regain Test wicketkeeper Peter Nevill.

Paceman James Pattinson has been excluded from the ODI squad following his Test return against the West Indies, but it remains to be seen whether his workloads will allow him to appear for the Renegades. Peter Siddle is out for the remainder of BBL|05 with an ankle injury.

Melbourne Stars

The Stars would have always expected to lose Glenn Maxwell and James Faulkner to Australian duties, while Scott Boland's stellar recent form has ensured the paceman will also be absent for the latter part of their BBL|05 campaign.

Perth Scorchers

The two-time defending champions bid farewell to in-form opener Shaun Marsh and young paceman Joel Paris, while Mitchell Marsh – already on Test duties – remains in the international fold. However, they regain skipper Adam Voges.

Sydney Sixers

While Nathan Lyon's hopes of a one-day international berth were not fulfilled, the Sixers will be rapt to get their off-spinner back after his two excellent appearances in magenta earlier this summer. Steve O'Keefe returns after his appearance at the SCG, while Steve Smith and Josh Hazlewood remain with the Australia squad.

Sydney Thunder

The Thunder regain Test batsman Usman Khawaja and retain the services of veteran allrounder Shane Watson, who was overlooked for the ODI squad.
