Got 'im, yes! Bill's back for Nine

The iconic catchcries of Bill Lawry will reverberate around Australia again this summer following news that Nine's Wide World of Sports will feature the much loved commentator more frequently over the coming months.

Lawry’s signature calls of "Got 'im, yes!" and "It’s all happening" have been part of the Australian vocabulary for generations and there will be more of the same as New Zealand, West Indies and India all visit Australia this summer.

The pigeon-loving former Australian skipper was only heard during the Melbourne Test against India last summer, but Channel Nine have confirmed the commentating legend will be used more this time around.

It is expected that Lawry will not be on air for the three-Test trans-Tasman series against New Zealand in November, with Tests in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, before being introduced during the Commonwealth Bank Test Series with the West Indies.

"Bill will do the Melbourne Test like he did last year, but he will also do the Sydney Test and some one-dayers," Channel Nine head of sport Steve Crawley told News Limited.

Crawley said having Lawry in the commentary box always provided a boost for everyone involved in the cricket coverage.

"It's great having him in commentary – he lifts the entire place. Life is better with him around,” he said.

“We get people like (rugby league broadcaster) Phil Gould ringing in when he is watching the cricket saying, 'Get Bill on, we need a wicket.'

"And I'll tell you what – he is exactly the same away from the microphone as he is when he is at it. Some of them when they are not on won't be as focused and will do other things but Bill is sitting there watching every ball and when someone gets out he is exactly the same, he'll leap to his feet and say, 'Got 'im ... he's gone'."

Recently retired Australian captain Michael Clarke is also likely to be heard on Channel Nine during the summer, while Ian Chappell, Mark Taylor, Ian Healy, Mark Nicholas, Michael Slater, Shane Warne, Brett Lee, Mike Hussey and former first-class cricketer James Brayshaw will also be utilised.

Veteran Kiwi commentator Ian Smith will join the team for the three Tests against New Zealand in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide during November.

The West Indies will then take on Australia in the three-match Commonwealth Bank Test Series in Hobart, Melbourne and Sydney before India visit in January for the VB One-Day International Series in Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.

Australia and India will also feature when their men’s and women’s teams battle it out in the three-match KFC Twenty20 International Series in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
