Strikers sign SA 'Bulldozer'

Former South Africa international Colin Ingram added for Strikers roster for BBL|07

Adelaide Strikers will have one of the world’s hardest-hitting batsmen in their armoury for BBL|07 after today announcing the signing of South African Colin Ingram.

Ingram played 31 one-day internationals and nine T20 internationals for the Proteas before signing a Kolpak deal in 2015 to play full-time in the United Kingdom.

It’s a move that has paid dividends for the 32-year-old.

Representing Cardiff-based outfit Glamorgan, Ingram was the player of the tournament in England’s domestic T20 competition last summer and has continued that stellar form in 2017.

This season the powerful left-hander has 381 runs at strike rate of 167.84 and two centuries to go with three fifies in England’s 50-over domestic competition.

So it comes as no surprise that Strikers coach Jason Gillespie was keen to get the veteran to Adelaide for season seven of the KFC Big Bash League.

"The decision was made that we’d look over the world of an overseas batsman and we found a quality one in Colin,” Gillespie said.

"He’s a guy who can bat in the top four and who can make the crowd excited.

"He gives it a whack … he has a lot of T20 experience and adds a great deal to our batting line-up. I know that he’s absolutely thrilled and he’s really committed and really excited to be linking up with us.”

The Strikers were knocked out in the semi-finals last summer with internationals Kieron Pollard and Ish Sodhi on the books.

While Ingram looks set to have replaced the West Indian, Sodhi’s spot could go to a fellow leggie.

Media reports have linked the club with impressive Afghanistan teenage leg-spinner Rashid Khan.

The club is no stranger to brilliant international leggies after impressive stints from Kiwi Sodhi and England’s Adil Rashid.

Adelaide parted ways with T20 legend Brad Hodge and quick Kane Richardson in the wake of their sixth-placed finish in BBL|06.
