Sodhi's version of the Gatting Ball

NZ bowler produces stunning leg break against Pakistan

It's not quite as good as Shane Warne's famous Ball of the Century, but this delivery from New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi is about as good as it gets for a leg-spinner.

As New Zealand's bowlers struggled to get wickets against Pakistan's batsmen in Abu Dhabi - much like their trans-Tasman rivals had done last month - Sodhi produced a beautiful leg-spinner to dismiss No.3 Azhar Ali on day two.

Quick Single: Pakistan in control of first Test

With Pakistan's score on 2-373 and Ali on 87, he was cleaned bowled by a ball that drifted and pitched just outside leg stump before turning past the bat and clipping the top of off.

While Ali may have played the delivery differently if he had his time over - commentator Rameez Raja said the batsman could have played forward instead of back - the ball was a textbook leg-break.

And it revived memories of Warne's Ball of the Century that cleaned up Mike Gatting at Old Trafford 21 years ago.

You can watch Warne, Gatting and Aussie skipper Allan Border re-live that moment with this cricket.com.au mini doco about the famous delivery.

And special thanks must go to one of cricket.com.au's Facebook followers who brought Sodhi's ball to our attention.
