Livingstone glassed during UK pub fight

Lancashire Twenty20 celebrations turn violent as altercation leaves player visiting facial surgeon

Lancashire batsman Liam Livingstone has been ruled out of his club’s one-day match against Hampshire later today (Monday) after being glassed during a pub fight in Ashford on Saturday night.

Livingstone and teammates were celebrating their side’s progression to the Twenty20 domestic competition semi-finals when it is understood a patron of the Auction House Bar reacted badly to being accidentally bumped by one of Lancashire’s players, subsequently leading to a brawl in which punches were thrown and police and ambulance were called.

Quick Single: Northants ring-ins sting Australia

England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler and Lancashire coach Ashley Giles were both part of the celebrations that eventually soured, resulting in Livingstone receiving approximately 20 stitches in his face.

The 22-year-old will reportedly see a facial surgeon today to evaluate the extent of the damage.

A statement from Lancashire read: “Lancashire County Cricket Club is aware of an incident that took place on Saturday evening involving some of our players.

“The matter is currently being investigated by the police and nobody from the club will be making any further comment at this stage.”

Quick Single: Cummins ready, but realistic about call-up

Kent Police also confirmed that they had attended the incident.

“Kent Police received a report of a disturbance at 11.57pm on Saturday, August 15,” a spokesperson said.

“Officers attended The Auction House Bar on New Street, Ashford. It was reported that a man in his twenties had been assaulted and sustained a head injury.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident.”

Giles is expected to comment on the matter following today’s match, which Lancashire earned the right to play in following Saturday’s match against Kent that ended with the scores level, but saw Lancs progress on the basis that they lost fewer wickets.

Australian James Faulkner played a key role in the outcome, while Arron Lilley and Karl Brown combined for a stunning outfield catch (see video above).

Earlier this year, Livingstone captured the cricket world’s attention for all the right reasons, hammering what is believed to be a world record 350 in a 50-overs-a-side game while playing for Nantwitch Town against Caldy in an ECB National Club Championship match at Whitehouse Lane.

The incredible knock – which included 34 fours and 27 sixes and came from just 137 balls – was said to have surpassed the previous record of 334 not out by Nikhilesh Surendran in Hyderabad in 2008.

On his List A debut on August 8, the right-hander made a match-winning 91 from 88 deliveries, also against Kent in Canterbury.
