Stoinis latest Aussie to return from IPL

Allrounder flies home due to 'personal reasons' after starring performances for Kings XI

Allrounder Marcus Stoinis has become the latest Australian to return home early from the Indian Premier League.

Stoinis pulled out of the tournament on Tuesday due to a family issue, one day after fellow Kings XI Punjab import Glenn Maxwell was sent home nursing a side strain.

While Kings XI are out of the running for the IPL finals, Stoinis will be missed after hitting form in recent matches, scoring 146 runs from five innings at a strike rate of 135.18, while also collecting eight wickets.

Quick single: Maxwell latest victim of IPL injury

He played a starring role in his team’s win over Delhi Daredevils earlier this month, scoring a half-century and snaring three wickets.

The right-arm medium pacer was also named man of the match after dismantling Mumbai with 4-15 last week.

Stoinis, who is not part of Australia’s one-day squad for next month’s tour of the Caribbean, joins Steve Smith (wrist), Mitchell Marsh (side strain), Shaun Marsh (back) and John Hastings (ankle) as Australians who have left the IPL early this season.

Smith and Mitch Marsh –teammates at the Rising Pune Supergiants – are expected to be fully fit to play in the ODI tri-series against the West Indies and South Africa, which begins on June 3.

Maxwell is also expected to be fit for the Windies tour, with Cricket Australia's Bupa Support Team Physiotherapist David Beakley saying: "Glenn reported increasing soreness in his left abdomen area following last night's match and as such a decision was made for him to return home for further assessment and treatment ahead of the West Indies tour.

"From the information we have so far, the injury doesn’t appear to be something that will prevent Glenn from participating in this tour, but we are keen to give him the necessary time to recover before departing to the West Indies at the end of this month."

Hastings' injury required surgery and he was replaced in the touring party by Victoria teammate Scott Boland, while Marsh wasn't part of the original squad because of the impending birth of his first child.
