Aussie trio join commentary team

Australian Test vice-captain David Warner and recent retirees Chris Rogers and Ryan Harris will give viewers a unique insight into the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup as guest commentators on the Nine Network.

Fifteen Matador Cup matches will be screened live and in HD on Nine’s Gem Network, starting with tomorrow’s clash between the NSW Blues and the West End Redbacks at North Sydney Oval.

Warner – who is sitting out the tournament with a broken thumb as he continues his recovery ahead of next month’s Test series with New Zealand – and retired pair Rogers and Harris will join Brett Lee, Mike Hussey and Tom Moody as part of Nine’s commentary team.

The Gem matches will also be available for streaming to cricket.com.au Live Pass subscribers.

The first four Matador Cup matches have already produced seven centuries, including a blazing double ton from Redbacks batsmen Travis Head, while the Cricket Australia XI hasn’t yet panned out as hoped, with the country’s young guns rolled for 59 and 79 in their opening two matches against high-quality New South Wales and Victoria sides respectively.

The competition was boosted by the unfortunate postponement of Australia’s two-Test tour to Bangladesh, meaning those from the 15-man squad add some serious star quality to most states.

And that prowess has already been highlighted, courtesy of hundreds to Steve Smith, Shaun Marsh and Cameron Bancroft, and impressive hauls by Mitchell Starc (6-25) and Andrew Fekete (4-30).

The tournament runs for three weeks, concluding with the final on Sunday, October 25 at North Sydney Oval.
