The match in a tweet: Tye-riffic! @Scorchers (1-117) smash @HeatBBL by nine wkts thanks to a brilliant all-round bowling display & despite Lynn's dashing 75no #BBL05

The hero: After a breakout BBL|04, Andrew Tye continues his Scorchers fairytale. The right-arm seamer has clever variations and combines that with unerring accuracy to keep the runs tight and the batsmen guessing. Three more wickets tonight was just reward for another excellent showing, and if the 29-year-old has more performances like this, he could loom as a bolter for Australia's World T20 squad.

The support cast: Tye had plenty of mates in orange doing the business, too. Jason Behrendorff (2-32), David Willey (1-15 off four) and the always miserly Brad Hogg (1-15) was up to his old tricks, tying Peter Forrest and Nathan Reardon in knots as the runs dried up in the middle overs. With the bat, openers Marcus Harris (36) and Michael Klinger (53no) were belligerent and businesslike respectively in helping their side easily overhaul the target of 118, while a breezy 24no from youngster Ashton Agar at No.3 iced the deal.

The consolation effort: Chris Lynn is a one-man wrecking machine for the Heat at the moment but the skipper simply can't do it all on his own. Lynn peppered the Perth crowd with four sixes during his blazing knock of 75no from 58 balls, but it wasn't enough against a quality all-round performance from Perth.

The moment: Behrendorff got one to just shape away from Lendl Simmons with the second delivery of the match – and the left-armer's second of the tournament – and the rot set in for the Heat. It was the perfect way for the imposing paceman to announce his return to the Scorchers and signalled the beginning of an all-round bowling performance that has become synonymous with Justin Langer's side.

WATCH: Welcome back, JB!

The shot: More credit to Lynn here. The Heat captain is the Big Bash's most prolific six hitter and he was at it again at the Furnace, lacing four maximums. We reckon this one is the pick of the bunch.

The stat: 10, 0, 6, 2, 5, 8, 3. That's the Heat scorecard without the contribution of Lynn, who accounted for 64.1 per cent of the team's 7-117. It's the second-highest percentage of an innings total in BBL history – after George Bailey's 62no in the Hurricanes 91 last week.

The wash-up: The Scorchers are back with a bang. Not that anyone doubted their credentials, given their record of having never won the opening match of their Big Bash season. For the Heat, it's officially panic stations – they're zero from three but more importantly, they looked a long way off the pace tonight.

The next stop: The Heat host the Hurricanes in a return bout of last week's clash on December 29, while the Scorchers next face the Renegades in Melbourne the following day.
