Klinger blasts 80 but plaudits go to WA bowlers as they restrict Victoria in rain-affected reduced overs match in Perth
Warriors claim bonus point win at wet WACA
Western Australia have jumped to second on the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup ladder after a bonus-point win against the Victoria Bushrangers at a wet, windy and at times wild WACA Ground.
The Warriors had reached 6-190 after their innings was reduced to 28 overs.
Victoria managed 9-98 in 18 overs in reply. Their innings was interrupted by a wild torrential downpour that had WACA ground staff falling over themselves in their battle against the elements to get the covers on as rain lashed down.
The start had been delayed as heavy showers swept across the WACA and players were again forced from the field after just 11 overs.
WA's veteran opener Michael Klinger showed he's lost none of his touch, blasting 87 to lead all scorers.
WA's innings was highlighted by a sensational boundary-line catch, completed by Rob Quiney but which owes everything to the incredible athletic ability of Glenn Maxwell.
Quick Single: Maxwell miracles add a new chapter
Leaping high and backwards at the long-on boundary, Maxwell caught the shot from left-hander D'Arcy Short mid-air, and had the presence of mind and ability to throw the ball far enough back in for Quiney to complete the catch as he ran over from cover.
Shaun Marsh made his return from a finger injury that kept him out of Australia's Qantas Tour of South Africa, and cracked three boundaries off the first over from Jackson Coleman. However, Marcus Stoinis claimed his wicket next over.
Michael Klinger top-scored for the Warriors with 87, while Short - elevated to No.4 for a left-right combination after Voges scored a 10-ball duck - added 52 before he was so brilliantly caught.
Making the most of the conditions to have the new ball sing, WA quick Jason Behrendorff (2-23) claimed the key scalps of Victoria opener Marcus Harris - a former WA player - and Maxwell.
Andrew Tye removed Dan Christian (12), who skied a catch for Sam Whiteman, Peter Handscomb (1) who may have been a touch unlucky to be given out leg before when well down the pitch, and Cameron White (24), also caught by the 'keeper.
Tye later threw down the stumps with a direct hit to run out Jon Holland as the Victorians tried to apply the breaks in the hopes further rain would prevent a result.
With a win out of the question, Tye's tight bowling to the Bushrangers' tail at the death secured WA a bonus point, and the Australian World T20 bowler man of the match honours.
