Teenager 160, extras 9, teammates 0

It's said that one player doesn’t make a team, but when it comes to Mpumalanga’s Under-19 women’s side, that saying is tossed out the window.

In perhaps the most remarkable Twenty20 innings ever recorded, opening batter Shania-Lee Swart scored 160 out of Mpumalanga’s 9-169, with her teammates contributing a grand total of zero.

Mpumalanga’s innings featured eight ducks, three of which were golden, while No.10 batter Nicholate Phiri remained not out on naught. Extras, with nine, was the next best and only other score.

Swart’s 86-ball 160no featured 18 fours and 12 sixes in one of the most lop-sided performances in recent memory.

The dashing opener put on 50 for the fourth wicket with Yonello Vellelo before combining with Phiri to record an unbeaten stand of 61, with the tailender facing only three balls. 

Swart then opened the bowling and claimed 2-21 from her four overs as Mpumalanga beat Easterns Under-19 (6-126) by 42 runs during Cricket South Africa's Under-19 Girls National Cricket Week in Pretoria.  

To put the knock into some context, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson owns the record for the highest percentage or runs scored in a completed T20 international innings when he scored 70 per cent (42 out of 60) of New Zealand’s total against Sri Lanka in the 2014 World T20.

Swart scored a whopping 95 per cent of her team’s total.

Her total of 160no is better than Aaron Finch’s T20I world record of 156, while she was just three strikes away from beating Chris Gayle’s enormous 175 that he posted for Bangalore in the 2013 IPL.
