Marsh family welcome new addition

Shaun takes to social media to announce safe arrival of baby son, Austin Ross

Australia batsman Shaun Marsh has announced the arrival of a baby son with wife Rebecca.

Marsh, who sat out Australia’s current Qantas tour of the West Indies for the birth, announced the arrival of Austin Ross Marsh on social media on Saturday morning.

Austin is the first child for the couple, who married April last year, and the proud father said both mother and son were doing well.

"Proud to announce the safe arrival of little Austin Ross Marsh born at 10.37pm last night, Bec was a superstar and our little man is just perfect, we love him so much already :)" Marsh wrote.

Marsh was ruled out of the Indian Premier League in early May with back injury he picked up during the six-wicket loss to Kolkata Knight Riders on April 19.

But the batsman will be fit for this next international assignment - Australia's tour of Sri Lanka in July and August.

He was named in Australia’s 15-man Test squad for the tour last month and the back injury that brought him home early from India wouldn’t prevent him from boarding the plane to Sri Lanka.

"My back’s getting better, I wouldn’t say it’s one hundred per cent but I’ve got a bit of time up my sleeve now to get it right," Marsh told reporters in Perth following the release of the squad.

"I don’t leave until the 9th of July so I’ll be ready to go by then.

"It’s just one of those things.

"I’ve been really good over the last couple of years with my injuries and the body’s fine.

"I’ve had a bit of a hiccup over the last couple of weeks and I’ll be ready to go come July."
