Smith's Test-best 192 has records tumbling

Australia captain Steve Smith's amazing run of form continues in the Boxing Day Test

Steve Smith's incredible form has continued, Australia's captain scoring a career-best score and third consecutive hundred of the series on the second day of the third Commonwealth Bank Test.

Smith fell just short of a maiden double-century, bowled on 192 attempting to slog his way to 200 with No.11 Josh Hazlewood at the other end.

Smith shared an entertaining 106-run partnership with Ryan Harris, who recorded his Test-best score of 74. A straight-driven six from Smith went 97 metres, landing several rows back amongst a raucous MCG crowd.

Smith and Brad Haddin put on 110, upping the run-rate on day two before the wicketkeeper fell after reaching his half-century. Smith and Mitchell Johnson added a 50-run partnership of their own.

He had earlier brought up his first 100 with a glanced boundary off Mohammad Shami, his fifth hundred of the year and his seventh overall.

The 25-year-old has now scored seven centuries and nine fifties since he returned to Australia's Test side in March last year, at an average of well over 50.

His hundred in this match came off 191 balls with nine fours and a six.
