Head blasts massive one-day total in UK

Australian puts Leicestershire to sword with stunning knock in England

Full scorecard: Yorkshire v Leicestershire

South Australia captain Travis Head blasted 175 on his one-day debut for Yorkshire against Leicestershire in England on Sunday.

Batting at first drop, Head crashed 18 fours and four sixes in his 139-ball stay at Grace Road.

The 22-year-old combined with Jack Leaning (131no) for a Yorkshire-record 274-run partnership as the visitors racked up 3-376 from 50 overs.

Head started his frenetic knock calmly, soaking up seven dot balls before a single off the eighth delivery he faced got his innings underway.

While his first 60 balls yielded six boundaries and 50 runs, the next 79 reaped 115 with a dozen fours and four sixes.

He was out off the final ball of the 46th over, top-edging Ireland international Kevin O’Brien to his brother and wicketkeeper Niall who took a simple catch.

Following the comprehensive 191-run win, Leaning described Head as "a huge talent who will play a big part for Australia in the future".

Highlights of Head's 53-ball ton in BBL

The left-hander has an appetite for big scores in 50-over cricket.

In last summer’s Matador BBQs One-Day Cup, Head produced a stunning innings against Western Australia, amassing 202 as the Redbacks chased down 351 with 21 balls to spare.

Head’s innings was the third time an Australian had registered a List A one-day double-century after the late Phillip Hughes and then Ben Dunk both reached the milestone in 2014.

His impressive white-ball form, both in 50-over and T20 cricket, earned him a debut in Australia’s limited-overs sides earlier this year.

Head made his T20 international debut against India on his home turf of Adelaide Oval in January and his ODI debut five months later against the West Indies in St Kitts.

The total was the Yorkshire’s highest List A score against another first-class county, eclipsing the 6-352 they made against Nottinghamshire in 2001.
