Western Warrior suspended by CA

Will Bosisto forced to undergo analysis of his bowling action

Western Australian off-spinner Will Bosisto has been suspended from bowling in Cricket Australia-run competitions after he was found to have an illegal bowling action.

Cricket Australia announced the 21-year-old Alcohol.Think Again Western Warriors bowler had been suspended following biomechanical analysis which revealed his elbow extension was outside the 15-degree level permitted under International Cricket Council regulations.

Bosisto was reported after WA's home Toyota Futures League match against Victoria in late October. He was tested at the Bupa National Cricket Centre on November 11, and it was found all of his off-spin deliveries exceeded the 15-degree limit.

Bosisto cannot apply to have his action re-tested for 90 days - that restriction will expire on February 19, 2015 - but he is still eligible to play as a batsman during that period.

He will have to pass another biomechanical analysis of his action before being permitted to bowl under CA's Doubtful Bowling Action Procedure.

WA General Manager High Performance Ben Oliver said Bosisto had the state's full support.

"We support Will fully and will work together with Cricket Australia on his bowling action over the coming months," said Oliver.

"Will is an outstanding young man and talented cricketer. We have no doubt that he will work through this challenge and continue to develop in all areas of his game."

Bosisto has played three first-class matches for WA, all in November 2013. He was part of Australia's U19 World Cup squad in 2012, has toured with the National Performance Squad and recently captained a WA XI against a touring Afghanistan side.

He was also part of the select group of spinners Cricket Australia sent to Colombo to work alongside Muthiah Muralidaran in the Sri Lanka legend's capacity as a consultant spin bowling coach.

For the 2014-15 domestic season onwards, CA has adopted the International Cricket Council's protocols for the testing and analysis of a doubtful bowling actions to ensure a fair and consistent global approach.

The Bupa NCC was recently accredited as one of four official ICC biomechanical testing centres for suspected illegal bowling actions.
