Bio

21 year old Alex Ross gained his first taste of professional cricket in Australia with eight games for the Redbacks in last season’s Ryobi Cup.

The middle order batsman has looked solid in most of his appearances, but will be disappointed that he hasn’t been able to really kick on with one of his many starts.

Ross got his first opportunity in 2012 against the Tasmanian Tigers in a gripping three run loss at the Adelaide Oval. Ross contributed 13 with the bat, but it wasn’t enough as his side fell agonisingly short in their run chase.

In his next match, Ross showed why he is regarded as a star of the future with a well compiled 62 against the Warriors. In fact, coming in at 5/61, his classy knock proved to be the difference as the Redbacks went on to win by just 14 runs.

In his only other significant contribution, Ross chipped in with a valuable 32 against NSW in a vital clash at the SCG.

Still only a youngster, Ross has plenty of time to hone his skills in the Futures League, where he has already been one of South Australia’s best.

In the final match of the season, Ross continued his love affair with the WACA, as he majestically raced into the nineties. However, like so many batsmen before him, tragedy struck, when he was cruelly dismissed on 99.

With form like that on his side, Ross is well placed to return an even better cricketer in 2013/14 as he hunts down the triple figures that he feels  he probably deserves.
