The Toyota Futures League is set to receive an injection of experience, with Cricket Australia implementing a rule change allowing for more established players in the second-tier competition.

The Futures League will now allow states to select more than six players over the age of 23 if they wish.
In a missive to grade cricket clubs around the country, CA Executive General Manager, Team Performance Pat Howard said the change would allow young Futures League players to build their game alongside seasoned campaigners.
“This hopefully leaves a carrot for your older players to know that representation at the next level is still attainable within the concept of this competition having an overall objective of stretching and developing youth in the interests of Australian cricket overall,” Howard wrote.
“First grade cricket will continue, as it always has, to provide a platform for players, coaches, match officials, administrators and volunteers to be attracted to and stay involved in our national game.
“Australian Cricket is looking to bring grade cricket and High Performance closer together so that the pathway to the top is clear, united and engaging.”
