West Indies spinner banned by ICC

World No.1 limited overs spinner Sunil Narine banned for an illegal bowling action

Sunil Narine has been suspended immediately, after the International Cricket Council found his bowling action to be illegal.

The West Indian is currently ranked the world's No.1 bowler in both one-day international and twenty20 international formats by the ICC.

The ICC testing found all variations of Narine's deliveries exceeded the acceptable 15 degrees level of tolerance and duly suspended him from all forms of international cricket with immediate effect.

Narine's action was reported following the third ODI match between West Indies and Sri Lanka in Pallekele on November 7 and a test on his action was performed 10 days later at the ICC's testing centre at Loughborough University in England.

Quick Single: Narine reported for illegal action

The off-spinner can apply for a re-assessment by the ICC after modifying his action in accordance with clause 2.4 of the Regulations for the Review of Bowlers Reported with Suspected Illegal Bowling Actions.

Narine has taken 21 wickets from six Test matches for West Indies, but is best known for his exploits in limited overs cricket and is currently ranked by the ICC as the number one bowler in the world at ODI and Twenty20 level.

The 27-year-old has 77 ODI scalps and has performed admirably for the West Indies at Twenty20 level with 40 wickets.
