Bulls on top as Hartley breaks record

Tasmania are battling to set Queensland a competitive target on Tuesday's third day of their Sheffield Shield day-night match in Brisbane.

Trailing by 76 on the first innings, the Tigers were 7-179 at stumps at the Gabba, holding a lead of 103 runs.

The Tigers lost 3-18 after a promising 62-run opening stand between Jordan Silk (33) and Ben Dunk (31).

The vital wicket of captain and Australian player George Bailey (5) rounded off a fruitful second session for the Bulls. Bailey's dismissal was Queensland wicketkeeper Chris Hartley's 500th Sheffield Shield catch - breaking the previous record of Darren Berry.

After the break, Beau Webster couldn't replicate his first-innings heroics, dismissed for 23, before Jake Doran (24) and Ben McDermott (16) followed suit. 

Their hopes of building a competitive total lie with Tom Triffitt, who will resume on 39 on Wednesday.

Earlier, Queensland's last three wickets added 33 after they resumed at 7-343 on day three.

Captain and wicketkeeper Chris Hartley fleshed out the tail with an unbeaten 70 off 148 balls.
