Carey, Richardson make their ODI debuts as Zampa is axed for White for the second ODI at the Gabba
Australia make three changes in Brisbane
Wicketkeeper Alex Carey and paceman Jhye Richardson have become Australia's 223rd and 224th one-day international players, while Adam Zampa has been dropped for the second Gillette ODI against England at the Gabba.
Australia won the toss and elected to bat first as the hosts look to bounce back following their five-wicket defeat last Sunday.
Carey has come into the side in the absence of Tim Paine, who has been hit by a gastro bug and was ruled out of the match earlier today.
With paceman Josh Hazlewood also missing out due to illness and Pat Cummins rested, Western Australian Richardson has come into the side.
And in a surprise move, veteran batter Cameron White has been recalled at leg-spinner Zampa's expense, with the Victorian to play his first international match in nearly two years.
It means the make-up of the side is vastly different to that which played in the series opener; Richardson joins state teammate Andrew Tye, who made his debut last Sunday, and spearhead Mitchell Starc in a three-man frontline bowling attack, meaning allrounders Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis will likely have to bowl up to 20 overs between them.
Carey makes his international debut having struck a match-winning century for Adelaide Strikers in the KFC Big Bash League on Wednesday.
Only Hobart Hurricanes opener D'Arcy Short has scored more runs in BBL|07 than Carey, with his 368 runs coming at 61.33.
The 26-year-old also struck his maiden first-class century for South Australia last month, posting 139 against Queensland in their JLT Sheffield Shield match in Cairns.
Last summer, Carey broke the all-time Sheffield Shield dismissals record, effecting 59 dismissals to surpass Wade Seccombe's mark of 58 set in 2000-01.
He had also been touted as a bolter for the Magellan Ashes before Paine's eventual selection.
Richardson, a skiddy paceman from Western Australia, made his T20 International debut for Australia last summer against Sri Lanka. The right-armer was the player of the match in last season’s BBL final for champions Perth Scorchers.
Zampa's omission comes after he recorded his worst-ever ODI figures in the series-opener in Melbourne.
White, who could pitch in with his part-time leg-spin in the absence of a specialist slow bowler, last played for Australia in January 2015.
Hazlewood and Paine are the latest players to be struck down by illness in recent weeks, joining David Warner, Steve Smith and Patrick Cummins as well as England captain Joe Root and batsman James Vince.
