Lyon's long wait for 400th Test wicket ends

Nathan Lyon has finally taken his 400th Test wicket, becoming only the third Australian bowler to achieve the feat.

Nathan Lyon's long wait for a 400th Test wicket is over with the off-spinner dismissing Dawid Malan in his second over on day four of the first Vodafone Ashes Test at the Gabba.

Lyon had bowled 33 wicketless overs in the Test and waited almost a year since his last Test wicket, in Australia's last contest, in January to achieve the milestone.

He managed it in the fourth over of the day with Malan (82) edging onto his pad for Marnus Labuschagne to take a sharp catch under his nose at silly mid-off.

The wicket was a crucial one for the hosts, just shy of the second new ball, as the recovering England looked to set Australia a target.

Lyon is now only the third Australian bowler to take 400 Test wickets and is only behind Shane Warne (708) and Glenn McGrath (563), who are both retired.

AUSTRALIA'S ALL-TIME LEADING TEST WICKET-TAKERS:

* Shane Warne (708)

* Glenn McGrath (563)

* Nathan Lyon (400, ongoing)

* Dennis Lillee (355)

* Mitchell Johnson (313)
