Healy blasts warm-up ton for NSW

New Breakers skipper Alyssa Healy produced an ominous display in NSW's warm-up clash against South Australia

Australia wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy has her sights set on a big summer at both international and domestic level after blasting a century in a NSW warm-up match on the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday.

Healy dusted off the cobwebs with 154 from just 116 deliveries against South Australia, reaching triple figures from 88 deliveries and scoring 20 boundaries and three sixes before retiring.

The new Lendlease Breakers captain led the way as her team posted 3-331 from their 50 overs – helped by an unbeaten 66 from youngster Tahlia Wilson and a rapid 41 off 40 from Australia allrounder Ellyse Perry – before completing a 112-run victory.

With little more than a month remaining before Australia begin their T20I tri-series against New Zealand at North Sydney Oval on September 29, Healy said it was a relief to get some early runs under her belt.

"I enjoyed my time out there, it was obviously nice to spend a little bit of time at the crease because I haven't had a lot of time batting this preseason in a game situation," Healy, 28, said following Wednesday's match.

"It was good to blow out some cobwebs. I was a little bit nervous until today after averaging about 1.25 after a couple of games.

"It was obviously good fun but there's a big summer coming up and I don't want to peak too early."

Australia will meet the White Ferns in three T20Is before heading overseas to play Pakistan in October, ahead of their World T20 campaign in the Caribbean in November.

Just days after the World T20 final, the Rebel WBBL|04 season will begin with a bumper Opening Weekend at Melbourne's Junction Oval on December 1-2.

It looms as the busiest summer yet for Australia's top players and Healy, who scored her first international century against India in March, is determined to play a major part.

"There's a huge summer both internationally and domestically that I really want to be a part of," Healy said.

"(The first T20I at) North Sydney Oval is the carrot dangling there at the moment and it's something everyone wants to be a part of.

"It'll be a big series against the Kiwis and then leading into the T20 World Cup, it's really exciting."

But before the international summer begins, Healy will make her official NSW captaincy debut when the Breakers meet Queensland in their opening match of the Women's National Cricket League season on September 21.

Healy smashes first international century

Taking over a team that has won 19 of the 22 WNCL titles to date is a daunting task, but Healy is feeling optimistic after what she's seen so far from her 19-strong squad, which includes Australian-contracted players Ellyse Perry, Ashleigh Gardner, Nicola Carey and Rachael Haynes.

"We haven't really done a preseason like this before in the WNCL so it's good to get out there," she said.

"I was a little bit nervous after first practice game where we got pantsed but I've thoroughly enjoyed coming into the captain's role.

"I probably didn't appreciate the amount of work (former captain) Alex Blackwell did until I came into the role.

"It's been great fun, the girls have been really receptive to me and it's only going to hopefully get better and better."
