Whitewash the focus for driven Aussies

Tourists 2-0 up and desperate to make it a clean sweep as they prepare for today's third ODI against India

Australia have a one-day international series whitewash against India in their sights as they head into Sunday's third and final match in Vadodara.

The Southern Stars took an unassailable 2-0 lead with a 60-run win on Thursday, but now have the chance to finish the series on a high note and carry momentum into next week's T20I tri-series against India and England.

It's also an opportunity for Australia to prove to themselves they can finish off a series strongly, after failing to do so twice during the Ashes late last year.

Then, they won the first two ODIs against England only to drop the third, while they earned enough points in the multi-format series to retain the Ashes with two T20Is remaining, but lost the final two games to see the series end eight-all.

"It's really important for us as a group," vice-captain Rachael Haynes said of the chance to win 3-nil on Saturday. "In the past we've let moments like this slip a little bit and we want to make a statement.

"To come away from India have won all three games against a strong team would be a really positive end to the series for us."

Match Wrap: Aussies secure series with 2-0 lead

The two ICC Women's Championship points on offer for the match means both sides still have plenty to play for. The points determine the three teams who will automatically qualify for the 2021 World Cup alongside hosts New Zealand, and Australia can draw level with the White Ferns on the top of the table with victory on Sunday.

Australia kept an unchanged XI through the first two matches and are unlikely to mess with the batting order, but have uncapped spin-bowling allrounder Sophie Molineux and quick Belinda Vakarewa up their sleeves should they wish to give any members of the bowling attack a chance to freshen up for the T20Is.

"Everyone is pushing for a spot, it's such a healthy squad we have here travelling," Australia assistant coach Shelley Nitschke said.

"Nicola Carey's done fantastically well in the first two ODIs for us … we'll reassess the team (after training) and see what happens there.

"We've had some good plans in place that we feel comfortable with but India are a really strong team and they're going to come out with nothing to lose tomorrow, so we want to be really attacking, and if things start to not go our way we want to be resilient and come back at them."

India came into the series full of confidence having knocked Australia out of the World Cup finals last July and defeated South Africa away from home just last month.

The two ODIs to date have been largely lopsided affairs – although India looked threatening in patches in Thursday's second ODI – but Haynes said the Australians won't take anything for granted.

"I don't think they've been too far off the mark," she said. "They came out really positively in the second match and were with us a long way into the match, but unfortunately from their perspective they lost wickets at key moments.

"(The scoreline) is also a reflection of where our team is at at the moment, we've been playing really well throughout this series.

"But we expect them to come out tomorrow and put in a strong performance, they're a dangerous team."

The third ODI will get underway at 9am local time on Sunday (2.30pm AEDT). Cricket.com.au will provide news, scores, highlights and behind-the-scenes coverage from on the ground in India, while Fox Sports will broadcast the ODI and the T20I tri-series that will follow live.
