BBL players: The most famous person I've met

Very much celebrities in their own right, players from KFC Big Bash League clubs discuss brushes with the fame they've experienced in their cricketing, or non-cricketing life.

Tye: I knew someone who worked in his pit garage. A few years ago at Silverstone I was standing in his pit garage when he had qualifying. After qualifying was done I said g’day, he shook my hand and then kept going.

Khawaja: What a day! He rocked in in his Gucci pants, what a gangsta. He comes in and I made a beeline straight for him… if you ask for my cricket career top highlights, it’s in my top three.

Neser: I met Johnny Howard not long ago in London. I was pretty stoked with that. Had a little chat with him, but he was getting swamped by a lot of cricket tragics.

Finch: The first time was when I was 16 at Windsor Castle. She asked me if it was my first time in the UK. I said yes and she was rapt for me. And then the last time was when I met her with all the World Cup captains at Buckingham Palace. She asked me if it was my first time playing in the UK. She obviously didn’t have too many fond memories of me from 16 years ago.

Short: I just love the way he goes about his footy… I was doing some marketing stuff for CA (Cricket Australia) in Alice Springs, and he just happened to show up at the school where his Dad works. Great fella, very down to earth and always willing to help people.

Renshaw: I played a Test match in Dharamsala, which is where he resides. We went and met him. I shook his hand which was awesome and heard him speak. The microphone was pretty dodgy, I couldn’t hear much. All the people behind us seemed to think he was very funny, so as soon as they laughed, we laughed as well.

Richardson: I was star-stuck with him, and I’m not even a huge fan to be honest… it was in the off-season, so maybe he wasn’t keeping up with the domestic (cricket) scene. Just had a chat and told him I was a big fan of The Martian and some of his work. He was really nice.

Sandhu: He was one of my favourite wrestlers growing up. I think last year or the year before through the Sydney Thunder a few of us got to go and meet him. He was having a bat in the nets and stuff like that. I shook his hand. That was unbelievable.
