Bash Brothers to go global in the CPL

Chris Lynn and Brendon McCullum's pledge to take the Bash Brothers to the world looks set to come to fruition this year after the Brisbane Heat star pair were picked up by the same Caribbean Premier League side.

Both Lynn (US$130,000) and McCullum ($90,000) were snapped up by the Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL draft on Thursday ahead of the T20 tournament beginning in August.

The destructive duo's plans to link up at the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League were dashed when Lynn was ruled out of the competition after dislocating his shoulder while playing for Australia in the final of the trans-Tasman T20 tri-series in Auckland last month.

The Queenslander hopes to recover in time for April's Indian Premier League having been bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for A$1.85 million. McCullum will play for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

"It'd be great to link together and play cricket all over the world," Lynn told cricket.com.au last year. "We want to take the Lynn and McCullum culture around the world. Training hard, playing hard, whacking the ball over the fence, drinking beer and backing winners."

Lynn was one of four Australians selected in the draft, with recent international debutant D'Arcy Short ($110,000) set to form an imposing opening partnership with West Indies T20 star Lendl Simmons at the St Lucia Stars.

Brisbane Heat allrounder Ben Cutting ($110,000) and Melbourne Renegades batsman Tom Cooper ($40,000) will link up at the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.

New Zealand opener Martin Guptill was among those to fetch the biggest bids in the CPL draft, with Chris Gayle, Andre Russell - returning from a one-year doping ban for a whereabouts violation - Dwayne Bravo, Sohail Tanvir and Simmons also attracting the maximum price of $160,000 by their respective franchises.

Nepalese leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane became the first player from his country to be picked up in the CPL after the Patriots bought him for $5,000. The 17-year-old earned the same honour in the IPL having been bought by the Ricky Ponting-coached Delhi Daredevils last month.

In addition to getting Ponting's tick of approval, Lamichhane has a strong Australian connection; having played with former Aussie skipper Michael Clarke in Hong Kong in 2016, he joined his mentor in Sydney grade cricket later that year and declared "my dream is to play Big Bash".

Lamichhane wasn't the only 17-year-old leg-spinner to earn a CPL contract on Thursday, with Afghanistan's Qais Ahmed signed up as well despite having played just one Twenty20 in his professional career to date, although he did impress many judges at the Under-19 World Cup.

The six CPL teams were warned off signing players from Afghanistan and England as both countries have fixtures while the August 8-September 16 event is in progress.

Pakistan and Brisbane Heat leg-spinner Shadab Khan will team up with star tweaker Sunil Narine at Lynn and McCullum's Knight Riders.
